Book Summary:
(Taken from NetGalley)

Izzie loves Mark, and why shouldn't she? As the captain of the basketball team, he is kind and loving and he's everything she's ever wanted in a boyfriend. Her BFF loves ... somebody, but she won't say who. So when a hot new guy, Tristan, shows up at school, who better for Izzie to fix up her friend with? And what better way to do it than with a love philtre?

But even the best of magic has a way of going awry - and Izzie finds she's accidentally fallen in love with Tristan herself. And that's a problem. First of all, there's Mark. Second, Tristan comes with baggage - like the supernatural creatures that keep attacking whenever he's with Izzie, and the fact that he comes from the place where Izzie's father was killed.

Mandy's Review:

Cover

I find this cover to be romantic and sweet and I love it. The colors are beautiful. The body language of the two characters are very intimate, but not so much to be vulgar. Spectacular job!

Plot

Izzie's been dating Mark for a couple years. Over that time, she's noticed her best friend, Branna, has been getting more sullen and less inclined to talk things over with Izzie. Izzie finally gets her to open and reveal that she's in love with someone, but Branna's not saying who that someone is. Even knowing how her mother feels about using love philtres on couples, Izzie decides to try and make one for Branna and the guy she's in love with. The problem is that with a love philtre Izzie needs a strand of hair, or something else as personal, from the two people wanting to be together.

In the midst of all this, a new student arrives and has quickly found a friend in Mark. Tristan is sexy and gorgeous ... perfect for Branna, thinks Izzie. One thing leads to another and Izzie ends up falling in love with Tristan instead.

What then ensues is a story full of battles, discoveries, and true love. Can love truly conquer all or will evil triumph in the end?

Main Characters

Izzie - Her real name is Isolde. Her mother is a witch and her father was a sorcerer. Izzie is under the impression that she has no magic skills whatsoever. She annoys me in the beginning in that she is totally clueless as to who Branna was in love with. To the reader, it is extremely evident.

Mark - Captain of the basketball team. He is Izzie's boyfriend and is dedicated to making sure she's happy. He's also liked by Izzie's mother, which is a good thing in any teenage relationship.

Branna - Named after a German relative, who is a witch. She's a little awkward and shy around guys. This may be because she's already in love with someone or maybe that's just how she is. I'm not sure. When her true nature is shown to Izzie though, it's definitely apparent that she has some serious pent-up hostility.

Tristan - His real name is Tantris. With magic, knowing a person's name, and saying it correctly, is the key to obtaining power over a person. When Tristan joins Izzie and Mark's school, he changes his name from Tantris to Tristan to protect himself. He is immediately head-over-heels in love with Izzie, but Izzie thinks it's just the potion he drank making him feel that way. This guy does ANYTHING Izzie wants him to. That type of guy would annoy me, but when true love comes knocking, I guess anything can be overlooked.

Overall

I really enjoyed this book. It was a magical story with a slight twist. Once I began this book, I didn't want to put it down until I finished the very last page. I really believe that paranormal book lovers would enjoy a journey through Tris & Izzie.
