(Taken from Amazon)

The classic supernatural thriller by an author who helped define the genre. First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting." Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering it's powers - and soon it will choose one of them to make its own.

  1. The Haunting of the Hill House is one of my favorite books.

    1. Yep, houses can be haunted. When I was little, I remember living in a two-story house in the country. A ghost child would open and close the cabinets, plus the ghost would toss my toys across the room.

    2. I've (Mandy) never read the book *hangs head in shame*

  2. Absolutely! But what I love about haunted houses are the story behind the reason WHY its haunted. It could be the story of unrequited love, star-crossed lovers, or something more sinister. Although some people (especially my husband) may not believe in the paranormal, there are just some things that one cannot explain.

  3. I (Mandy) think it would be really awesome if ghosts did exist, but I'm not sure I believe it. I've not had any paranormal experiences like Billy. I'd say I'd love to experience some, but it may freak me out, too. I do love a good ghost story! =)

  4. Yes, I do believe houses can be haunted. My Mother has seen a ghost, so I believe.

  5. I was skeptical until my neighbor, upon moving out, told me all about the paranormal activity in the building next door. My wife then talked to the property owner and learned that the stories go back to previous tenants. The weird part for me is that these are scientifically minded business owners talking about a commercial building that went up in the 80's. Not your typical haunted house.
