Book Summary:
(Taken from Amazon)

Kate's life is far from normal. She can see auras, her boyfriend is immortal, and her powers make her a target. But now that the Demon Lord is hunting her, things are about to go from dangerous to truly deadly.

Packed with action, mind-blowing plot twists, and characters you can't get enough of, this is a fast-paced, heart-pounding read from cover to cover.

Mandy's Review:

Cover

This cover is one dark, sexy, smoldering inferno. I love it.

Plot/Main Characters

Kate and Patrick have decided to take a chance and have a relationship, which isn't often done between a Seer and a Guardian. The problem is that when a Seer dies, they are not given a chance to become a Guardian. Seers automatically go to Heaven or Hell when they die. Kate's not aware of this fact. She's under the impression that, should she die, she'd have the option of becoming an immortal Guardian and being with Patrick for forever.

Patrick, being immortal, is under the impression that Guardians cannot get sick and die. During a mission one night, though, he comes across a Guardian who is in fact dying. Flabbergasted at how this could be, Patrick reaches out to try and console the sick and dying Guardian ... much to his detriment.

In less than a week's time, Patrick is so violently ill that he is unable to be an effective Guardian. Kate is extremely upset to know that Patrick may be dying and would do anything to acquire an antidote to the virus attacking Patrick's body. Which is a good thing since the Demon Lord requires her assistance and gets her to come to him with the promise of the antidote for Patrick.

Does the Demon Lord really have the antidote? Should Kate trust the Demon Lord enough to do the requested mission? What will Patrick think about going to the Demon Lord for help?

Overall

Demons is a superbly written sequel to the first book in this trilogy, Seers. It had me laughing, angry, sad, wistful ... I absolutely adored this book and the series. I cannot wait for the final book, Guardians, to come out so I can see how it'll all end.

Kate's Teaser:

There wasn't much Gansey didn't like about flying. He liked airports, with their masses of people all doing things, and he liked planes, with their thick-paned windows and fold-out trays. The way that a jet charged down a runway reminded him of how the Camero pressed him back in the driver's seat when he hit the gas.

And then he said what he couldn't say before. He asked, "Can I ... can I press charges?"

{Review} Truth Be Told: Off the Record about Favorite Guests, Memorable Moments, Funniest Jokes, and a Half Century of Asking Questions by Larry King

ASIN #: B005OHTKY6
Page Count: 248
Copyright: May 31, 2011
Publisher: Weinstein Books

Book Summary:
(Taken from Goodreads)

Truth Be Told is a revealing and irresistibly entertaining look back on Larry's remarkable run at CNN, and an honest look at Larry's own life behind the scenes. After more than a half-century of asking questions, Larry King suddenly found everyone wanted answers from him.

Was Larry King Live, CNN's highest rated program, ending after three decades?
Was Larry getting divorced again?

The paparazzi aimed their cameras at Larry. Jay Leno and other late-night talk-show hosts were having fun at his expense. And a cloud of uncertainty hovered over CNN. All of this forced Larry to look at changes in all aspects of his life, ultimately leading to his decision to leave Larry King Live and devote more time to his marriage and children. Larry reflects on how much the world has changed around him over the course of his fifty-year career, and he has a lot to say about everything and everyone: from marriages, politics, sports, entertainment, to the justice system, broadcasting, and the American future.

Truth Be Told is a candid and surprising look inside the monumental career of one of the most powerful and legendary talk-show hosts as he signs off from the nightly television program that has been close to all of our hearts.

Kathy's Review:

I've never watched Larry King's show on CNN. Not that I have anything against the guy; I'm not much for the "talk" format of tv or radio.

However, I found this book to be incredibly interesting, filled with nuggets of little-known facts about the celebrities King has interviewed and befriended over the years. I think someone slightly older than myself (I'm 36) might enjoy this a little bit more, as he focuses heavily on A-listers such as Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando and Elvis. Sure, I know who these people are, but I wasn't alive during the height of their popularity. But he's also got some things to say about LeBron James, Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Ryan Seacrest. Not to mention countless others that fill every page of this book.

This book was written after King ended his 25-year reign on "Larry King Live" so the tone of the book is a bit reflective. He is looking back on a long and prosperous career and feels humbled and lucky to have gotten to meet the world's top actors, musicians and political leaders. This book gives insight into King's life as well as the lives of all those who he has had on his show over the years, and any fan of his show or anyone interested in some "insider" knowledge will get a kick out of King's Truth.

{Review} Wright for America by Robin Lamont

ISBN #: 978-0985848507
Page Count: 260
Copyright: October 1, 2012
Publisher: Grayling Press

Description:
(Taken from back cover)

Prior Wright's ultra-conservative radio show has millions of devout fans who are sure that the slurs and wild accusations fired at the liberal left prove him a true patriot. But when his venomous rants catch Marred Gareth's twin brother in the crossfire, the struggling actress pursues her own style of justice and enlists a troupe of fellow unemployed actors to teach Wright just how powerful words can be.

Charlene's Review:

Marred is an aspiring actress turned private investigator. While trying to bust a counterfeit band, she is also obsessed with taking on Prior Wright, an ultra-conservative talk show host, who she believes instigated an attack on her twin brother by spreading lies and hatred over the air waves.

Soon, she has all her actor friends involved in a scheme to stop Wright from his work, and has also managed to attract the attention of the FBI and a gang of arms dealers.

Ms. Lamont writes in a witty, satirical style that pokes fun and keeps you in suspense all the way through. Wright for America has a lively cast of characters, and sub-plots revolving around sensitive social issues, relevant to our world now. While occasionally acerbic, especially regarding conservative views, it is a fun, intense novel with humor.

From one of my favorite passages, Wright refers to the ACLU:

"My favorite organization. The Always Complaining Lie-through-their-teeth Uberliberals."

This was a very entertaining book that is well worth the time to read.

{Review} Tris & Izzie by Mette Ivie Harrison

ISBN #: 978-1606843895
Page Count: 272
Copyright: September 11, 2012
Publisher: EgmontUSA

Book Summary:
(Taken from NetGalley)

Izzie loves Mark, and why shouldn't she? As the captain of the basketball team, he is kind and loving and he's everything she's ever wanted in a boyfriend. Her BFF loves ... somebody, but she won't say who. So when a hot new guy, Tristan, shows up at school, who better for Izzie to fix up her friend with? And what better way to do it than with a love philtre?

But even the best of magic has a way of going awry - and Izzie finds she's accidentally fallen in love with Tristan herself. And that's a problem. First of all, there's Mark. Second, Tristan comes with baggage - like the supernatural creatures that keep attacking whenever he's with Izzie, and the fact that he comes from the place where Izzie's father was killed.

Mandy's Review:

Cover

I find this cover to be romantic and sweet and I love it. The colors are beautiful. The body language of the two characters are very intimate, but not so much to be vulgar. Spectacular job!

Plot

Izzie's been dating Mark for a couple years. Over that time, she's noticed her best friend, Branna, has been getting more sullen and less inclined to talk things over with Izzie. Izzie finally gets her to open and reveal that she's in love with someone, but Branna's not saying who that someone is. Even knowing how her mother feels about using love philtres on couples, Izzie decides to try and make one for Branna and the guy she's in love with. The problem is that with a love philtre Izzie needs a strand of hair, or something else as personal, from the two people wanting to be together.

In the midst of all this, a new student arrives and has quickly found a friend in Mark. Tristan is sexy and gorgeous ... perfect for Branna, thinks Izzie. One thing leads to another and Izzie ends up falling in love with Tristan instead.

What then ensues is a story full of battles, discoveries, and true love. Can love truly conquer all or will evil triumph in the end?

Main Characters

Izzie - Her real name is Isolde. Her mother is a witch and her father was a sorcerer. Izzie is under the impression that she has no magic skills whatsoever. She annoys me in the beginning in that she is totally clueless as to who Branna was in love with. To the reader, it is extremely evident.

Mark - Captain of the basketball team. He is Izzie's boyfriend and is dedicated to making sure she's happy. He's also liked by Izzie's mother, which is a good thing in any teenage relationship.

Branna - Named after a German relative, who is a witch. She's a little awkward and shy around guys. This may be because she's already in love with someone or maybe that's just how she is. I'm not sure. When her true nature is shown to Izzie though, it's definitely apparent that she has some serious pent-up hostility.

Tristan - His real name is Tantris. With magic, knowing a person's name, and saying it correctly, is the key to obtaining power over a person. When Tristan joins Izzie and Mark's school, he changes his name from Tantris to Tristan to protect himself. He is immediately head-over-heels in love with Izzie, but Izzie thinks it's just the potion he drank making him feel that way. This guy does ANYTHING Izzie wants him to. That type of guy would annoy me, but when true love comes knocking, I guess anything can be overlooked.

Overall

I really enjoyed this book. It was a magical story with a slight twist. Once I began this book, I didn't want to put it down until I finished the very last page. I really believe that paranormal book lovers would enjoy a journey through Tris & Izzie.
