{Meme} Book Blogger Hop

Welcome to the last Book Blogger Hop for July! Thanks goes to Billy from Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer for keeping this meme alive and kicking.

This week's question:

How do you organize your books to be read?

Kathy's Response:

I have SO many books at home to read that I have multiple areas where they're stored. Some are in my nightstand next to my bed. These books are the ones I plan on reading "soon" ... whether this means in the next few weeks or next few months. I have some in the basement. These are the remnants of the major bonanza of shopping I did when the Borders bookstore chain was closing. I made multiple trips there and basically lugged boxes and boxes of books home for maybe $40. It was a book lovers fantasy. In my attic I have my book sale books. These are in grocery bags. When I am between my more priority reads, I'll go reach into the bag and grab a book sale book. Sometimes they're good, sometimes not.

Mandy's Response:

Where to begin ... the books that I get in the mail sit on top of my computer desk or on the edge of one of my bookshelves so I know it still needs to be read. The books I'm currently reading are on the floor by my bed since I read a lot before I go to sleep at night. I usually keep one in my pocketbook, too, to read during my lunch break at work. Sometimes I have one started in the Kindle app on my iPhone and I'll have one or two started in my Kindle Fire HD.

I wasn't fortunate enough to have a Borders in my area for me to rack up at when they closed, but I do sometimes go shopping at the Clearance sections in my local Books-A-Million. Those books usually wind up on a separate bookshelf than the ones I get in the mail so that I know they need to be read, but not necessarily for review.

Yes ... I am ALWAYS reading something ... often, more than one something at a time.

  1. Oh God, I wish I was allowed to bring back boxes of books, but my family and friends are all very committed to me recovering from my book-addiction, as if that's possible! I have books everywhere as well, and although it might look slightly messy, I secretly love it! Thanks for sharing :)

  2. Seems to be easier to stack the books instead of doing what I do. :) THANKS for you input.

I use an Excel spreadsheet to keep my books in the order I need to read them.

Stop by for my full, organized answer if you like. :)

    Happy Hopping!!

  4. I'm still mourning Borders. I still manage to buy far more books than I'll read in my lifetime, so the grab from a pile or shelf system works best for me. Blogging adds some structure since I've signed up for challenges and reading other bloggers' reviews often tempts me to buy new books or borrow something from the library that will jump to the top of the pile.

  5. Great responses! I too have a big TBR pile that is mainly confined to a bookshelf but occasionally spills over onto the couch, the bedstand, the dining room table, etc. depending on what and where I am reading. I also went nuts at Borders during the last days and that expanded my TBR pile a bit too much, but it was so cheap I couldn't resist. Murakami-san is one of my favorite authors too.

  6. Kathy - OMG an attic AND a basement! You should make one into a library!!!

Mandy - I had a local Borders near me but unfortunately I didn't have that much money and the discounts were not that great here in Australia, such a pity that Borders closed down because that was the only main bookstore Australia had that had a huge variety of books :(
