Synopsis:
(As provided by the tour host)

Detective Connie Giannelli's life has been torn apart several times. First when her mother died and then years later when she found out her Uncle Dominic was in the mob. Her life is about to be shredded again, and this time it could destroy her.

Connie's love of family and her badge are both threatened when an undercover drug bust leaves two cops dead and the drugs missing. Internal Affairs is looking for any excuse to take her badge, but she's not worried about them finding the missing drugs - her secrets could prove to be far worse.

Now Connie's racing against the clock to figure out who killed her partners and took the drugs - dirty cops or Uncle Dominic's friends. And she has to do it before IA pins the whole damn thing on her.

Mandy's Review:

I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but I'll mention it now ... Mr. Giammatteo has become one of my must-read suspense authors. He has a gift of taking three or four seemingly unrelated events and bringing them together to form a suspense novel that will keep you turning the pages.

Being the first book in a new series, A Bullet for Carlos starts this series off with a bang. Full of New York attitude and Texas arrogance, this novel has it all. Connie was raised around mobsters, but became a good cop. Tip uses sexual innuendos to keep good women at bay. Dominic, Connie's "uncle," feels that nothing is as important as family and will do anything to help her ... even if she hates him for it. Carlos is a drug lord with a hatred for anyone who gets in his way.

At first I wondered about all the different stories being started in this novel and how they would tie together, but the author quickly began relating them together while still keeping some of the mystery. I highly recommend all you suspense-lovers out there to give this indie author a try. He is truly worth the time and deserves a spot on one of your over-flowing bookshelves.

  1. Mr Giammatteo also was put on my "favorite authors to read" list after reading his debut MURDER TAKES TIME. And I agree, A BULLET FOR CARLOS was a page turner. Spectacular review and post. So glad you enjoyed this book. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Mandy, many thanks are in order. I'm so happy you enjoyed the book. I was leery of starting a second series before continuing with the first, but in the end I felt it was the better approach. And this week the sequel to Murder Takes Time comes out, so I'm excited about that. And btw, I love the quote you have at the top of the page by Haruki. Perfect for your site.
